Contreet Foam & Hydrocolloid belong to a new generation of dressings based on the combination of hydroactivated silver technology and standard moist wound healing.Contreet dressings release silver on contact with exudate; the more exudate present, the more silver is released. This intelligent release mechanism ensures that Contreet releases silver sustainably throughout the life of the dressing, effectively restoring the bacterial balance of the wound and promoting wound healing.The control of odour is closely linked to a patient’s quality of life and infected wounds, or wounds with a heavy bacterial burden, tend to be malodourous. Contreet addresses the problem by releasing silver, killing bacteria and sealing the wound.In his study ‘Clinical Performance of a New Silver Dressing, Contreet Foam, for Chronic Exuding Leg Ulcers’, in which 25 patients were assessed before, during, and after a four week treatment period, Karlsmark recorded a reduction of 57% in the mean ulcer area. In the discussion of these results, Karlsmark said, ‘Contreet Foam’s ability to advance healing in venous leg ulcers may be partly explained by the polyurethane foam’s action in controlling the moisture content of the wound bed, but major importance must be attached to the efficacy of released silver ions as an antimicrobial agent and a possible promoter of epithelial regeneration.’

Using Smith and Nephew’s patented Allevyn tri-laminate structure design, the Plus Adhesive will handle high to extra high levels of exudate (65% more than standard Allevyn Adhesive) can actually be left in place for up to 7 days. The tri-laminate structure effectively wicks away the exudate while maintaining comfort as well as creating a strong barrier against bacteria. The effectiveness of the dressing results in faster healing times, cleaner wounds, and less trouble or worry about the wound itself. All excess exudates and cellular debris are easily and quickly absorbed by the dressing without the dressing breaking down in any way.
